You can find a temple or two around town, but the best thing about Weligama is the surfing atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-prueba-el-surf-en-weligama-beach\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prueba_el_Surf_en_Weligama_Beach\"><\/span>Surfing at Weligama Beach<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Surfing in Weligama is<strong> ideal for beginners<\/strong> thanks to the smooth and consistent waves. <strong>Weligama Bay is a huge crescent of sand protected from the waves<\/strong>, which guarantees perfect surfing conditions. During this period, you will find the best waves. However, it is possible to surf in Weligama throughout the year. If you decide to visit during the low season, from April to September, you will find fewer crowds and lower prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although it can get crowded, especially during the high season, the beach offers space for everyone. Kitchen in Weligama<\/strong> are just some of the hot spots where you can expect to enjoy a vibrant night of music, dancing and a perfect opportunity to socialize and meet new friends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, <strong>events such as beach parties and raves are highlighted.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-visita-las-playas-cercanas-a-weligama\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Visita_las_playas_cercanas_a_Weligama\"><\/span>Visit the beaches near Weligama<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing I love about Weligama is that once you settle in you will have everything at hand. Let's say that Weligama is halfway to the rest of the beaches in the southwest of Sri Lanka. In addition, all these beaches have some characteristic that makes them unique and special, so if I were you I would reserve some time to visit them all:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-8ef9b76a\"><h4 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ahangama_Beach\"><\/span>Ahangama Beach<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-separator uagb-block-1f302a12\"><div class=\"wp-block-uagb-separator__inner\" style=\"--my-background-image:\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This beach is my favorite for surfing, it has incredible waves for intermediate and advanced levels. In addition, the atmosphere of coffee shops and modern surf and souvenir shops make Ahangama a perfect destination to entertain yourself and meet people without the need to go out and party. This beach is located about 25 minutes from Weligama, read my <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/miradasnomadas.com\/en\/ahangama-sri-lanka\/\">full article on Ahangama here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-e1af6020\"><h4 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mirissa_Beach\"><\/span>Mirissa Beach<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-separator uagb-block-dcbc6ad1\"><div class=\"wp-block-uagb-separator__inner\" style=\"--my-background-image:\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mirissa is a city more popular with tourists, it is somewhat larger than the rest of the beaches and has numerous restaurants and spots to visit. Among them are the famous coconut tree hill (an esplanade full of coconut trees overlooking the sea) and parrot rock. As for surfing, it is not the best option, but it also has a couple of good places for intermediate levels. It is a must-see, and it is also located next to Weligama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-df691854\"><h4 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Midigama_Beach\"><\/span>Midigama Beach<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-separator uagb-block-d7725a6c\"><div class=\"wp-block-uagb-separator__inner\" style=\"--my-background-image:\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was my favorite place to settle in the south of the island with the aim of surfing. Midigama is located about 15 minutes by tuk tuk from Weligama, and what makes this place unique are its laid-back vibes, affordable prices, and spectacular surfing beaches. It combines quality with affordable prices, ideal for those looking for an international touch to their palate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your plan includes <strong>going out at night<\/strong>, <strong>Land of Rizka<\/strong> stays open until 4 am, offering burgers and a variety of dishes at affordable prices. It is an excellent option to end the night with good food and atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-como-llegar-a-weligama\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Como_llegar_a_Weligama\"><\/span>How to get to Weligama<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are several ways to get to Weligama, it all depends on your departing point. Most likely you will be heading to Weligama from Colombo, Ella or any of the southwestern beaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-como-llegar-a-weligama-desde-colombo\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Como_llegar_a_Weligama_desde_Colombo\"><\/span>How to get to Weligama from Colombo<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are heading to the southwest of Sri Lanka <strong>from <a href=\"https:\/\/miradasnomadas.com\/en\/what-to-see-in-colombo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Colombo<\/a> The best option will be to take a bus on the highway from the Makumbura Multimodal Center station<\/strong>. Once you arrive at the station you will have to ask for the bus <strong>to Galle.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Galle is a city in the southwest of Sri Lanka near Weligama. Make sure you get on the Highway Bus, if you make a mistake the journey time may be much longer than expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once in Galle you will simply take the local bus in front of the bus station on the way to Weligama. <strong>Total duration<\/strong> of these two buses<strong> from Colombo is usually between 2.5 and 3 hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-como-llegar-a-weligama-desde-ella-o-cualquier-otra-playa\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Como_llegar_a_Weligama_desde_Ella_o_cualquier_otra_playa\"><\/span>How to get to Weligama from Ella or any other beach<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In case of making the trip from Ella, things get more complicated, in this case there is no highway and the roads are less well maintained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will have to <strong>take a local bus from Ella to Wellawaya<\/strong>. Once there you will ask for the bus to the city of Matara in the south of Sri Lanka and when you get there you will have to get on a local bus to reach Wligama. The journey will take you approximately a whopping 6 hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To save you all this hassle<strong> you can always book an uber<\/strong> or ask for a cab, but the cost will be higher, around<strong> 60 euros<\/strong>. If you are going to take this option, I recommend you to look for someone to share expenses with, it will not be complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When you arrive to Weligama<\/strong>, <strong>the best way to get around the beaches <\/strong>it is to get on<strong> a local bus for about 50 SLR.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mi-experiencia-visitando-weligama\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mi_Experiencia_visitando_Weligama\"><\/span>My experience visiting Weligama<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My experience in Weligama was defined by the surf and the peace that surrounds this destination. Their hospitality and the relaxed vibe of the town enriched our stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In our case we already knew that our goal was to enjoy surfing, but I wouldn&#039;t recommend Weligama if you are looking for something more cultural.
