When it comes to exploring natural spaces like the Enchanted Forest of Tenerife, the preservation of the ecosystem is key. Therefore, to immerse yourself in this unique experience in the Natural Reserve of El Pijaral, it is essential to have a permit. To get it is a simple and free process that you can make online.You must reserve the date you wish to venture into this ecosystem. You must take into account the following requirements:

• There is a daily limit of 45 visitors.
• Maximum of 5 reservations per person (The person making the reservation plus 4 other companions).
• Reservations may be requested up to 16 days in advance.
• Usually the seats are sold out within a few minutes.
• It is not necessary to print the permit; carrying it in your cell phone will be enough.

Enchanted Forest Tenerife Without Permission

Not recommended or legal entering the Bosque Encantado without the corresponding permit. Regulations are in place to protect this ecologically important site and penalties are applied to those who violate them.

However, I must admit that on our visit we did not have this permit, they were running out of permits. In addition, we encountered other travelers along the way without this permit as well. Personally, I recommend that you apply for it, but if there are no places and you still want to visit it, always do it with respect for the ecosystem and being aware of the fine you may be fined if you are caught. In this case, the penalty could be up to 600 euros.

To secure your access to the Enchanted Forest, you can apply for a permit through the Cabildo of Tenerife. It is an intuitive process where you provide your personal information and select the date for your route. Make sure you have your permit saved on your cell phone before you leave.

How to get there and where to park?

There are several routes to reach the Enchanted Forest, depending on your starting point on the island, you have several options to get there:

1. From Santa Cruz de Tenerife: If you are in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the route is direct and scenic. Head towards San Andrés and follow the signs to El Bailadero. Before reaching the beach of Las Teresitas, take the detour to El Bailadero/Taganana. You will find signposts to guide you along the way.
2. From San Cristobal de La Laguna: The road takes you through the Monte de las Mercedes. Take the El Bailadero turnoff and follow the TF-123 road. Here, between kilometers 4 and 5, is the beginning of the trail that will take you into the heart of the Enchanted Forest.

Once in the area of La Ensillada, on the TF-123 road, you will find the parking lot for visitors to the Enchanted Forest. This parking lot is small, with space for only around 10 vehicles, which means that it can fill up quickly, especially on busy days. Therefore, it is wise to arrive early or consider using public transportation. Public transport, known locally as 'guagua', can drop you off nearby, from where you can access it on foot.

What will you see at the Enchanted Forest?

The Enchanted Forest of Tenerife is a unique sample of the laurel forest, a type of subtropical rainforest which is among the best preserved in Spain and the world. As you walk through this forest, you will come across a diversity of endemic flora and fauna, the views are spectacular, along with impressive ferns that sometimes completely cover the trail. The views of the north coast of Anaga are spectacular, which makes this place an unforgettable experience. Moreover, this ecosystem reminds me of Madeira Island. This kind of places make you feel like in adventure movies and once you get into the forest it seems that you are visiting another reality.

Main Route Enchanted Forest Loop Trail Tenerife

The main route of the Enchanted Forest of Tenerife is known for its circular path. Here you will enter a journey through one of the oldest and best preserved ecosystems of the island.

Characteristics of the Trail:

• Item: The starting and finishing point of the trail is La Ensillada.
• Length: The circular trail has a length of approximately 6.7 kilometers.
• Duration: The complete tour can take about 2.5 hours, depending on your pace and how often you decide to stop to see the scenery or rest.
• Difficulty: The difficulty of this route is low. However, it is important to wear appropriate footwear, as some sections can be slippery due to the typical humidity of the laurel forest.

Points of Interest: Cabezo del Tejo Viewpoint

Halfway, you will find the Mirador del Cabezo del Tejo, a place that offers panoramic views that are simply breathtaking. From this point, you can see the entire forest and, on clear days, the northern coast of Anaga.

Sometimes you can find local fauna such as the blue pizón of Tenerife or other birds. In addition, this viewpoint is the junction point with other routes.

To fully enjoy the visit to the Enchanted Forest, it is advisable to bring: comfortable clothing and footwear, water and snacks. Always respect the signs and indications about the allowed routes. Remember that this is a delicate ecosystem that we must all help to preserve. Enjoy the magic of the place, but always with responsibility.

Other Routes of Interest in Anaga

In addition to the main route, there are several secondary routes that also allow you to explore different aspects of the Enchanted Forest and the Anaga Massif. Each offers unique perspectives and the opportunity to appreciate the natural richness of the place.

San Andrés, Taganana, Roque de las Bodegas: This non-circular route of 8 km takes you through "El Cercado", one of the most important palm groves of Tenerife. It allows you to enjoy a swim at the Roque de las Bodegas beach at the end.

Brosque Valley, Casas de la Cumbre, Mataborricos: An 8.5 km circular route known for its spectacular views of Santa Cruz and a lush laurel forest. Clearly signposted for an unparalleled hiking experience.

Taborno, Batán de Abajo, Bejía, Punta del Hidalgo: With 13.5 km, this route takes you through valleys and ravines, through tunnels and rural areas, and ends in Punta del Hidalgo. It is a demanding but highly recommended route.

Benijo Beach, Tafada Mountain, Las Palmas de Anaga: This 12 km circular route starts at Benijo beach. It offers impressive views of the coast and the native flora of Anaga.

Tegueste, Mesa de Tejina: A circuit of 8 km starting in Tegueste. It offers panoramic views towards the coast and the Teide, recommended especially at sunset.
