On my last trip to Tenerife I came across the cave of La Vaca, a unique corner perfect for diving and jumping off the rocks. Here I tell you everything you need to know to get the most out of this cave.
Where is the Cueva de la Vaca located?
The cave of the Cow is hidden in Puerto Santiago, Santiago del Teide. This site, besides being a unique corner for diving, is one of the most beautiful caves in Tenerife. It is almost within easy reach, just at the end of Playa de la Arena.
How to get to the Cueva de la Vaca
From the capital, the trip by car takes about an hour. Take the TF-1 southbound and follow the signs to Playa San Juan/Los Gigantes. The access is simple, it is at the end of a street, but it is parking can be complicated due to the popularity of the area.
Characteristics of the Cave
Cueva de la Vaca, with its turquoise water and imposing rocks, is most impressive at low tide. It is a natural pool perfect for taking pictures, swimming, snorkeling or jumping from the rocks. One of the characteristics that make it unique is its cave-like opening to the open sea.

Is it dangerous to bathe in Charco de la Vaca?
You should always be cautious. It is advisable to check the tide and sea conditions before deciding to enter the water.
Generally speaking, it is not a dangerous puddle, but you must take into account that there are no lifeguards guarding the cave. My recommendation is always be accompanied by someone who can help you out in case you need it.
My Experience at Cueva de la Vaca
Undoubtedly I would put it in my top 3 favorite puddles. It is incredible for diving because there are many fish and the cave is deep, you can go out of it to the open sea or visit the natural pool that is located just at the entrance of the pool.
As if that were not enough, this puddle is perfect for jumping off the rocks. There is different heights and being very deep you can jump from different points. We went to spend a few hours there, but decided to return because it is a very worthwhile place.
Another aspect that we liked is that for some reason is not well known among tourists. When we arrived at noon there was no one there, nor during the two hours we spent there. Something we found incredible given that the beach of La Arena is right in front of it.
