El Charco Verde is a hidden gem on the north coast of Tenerife, located in La Guancha. This place of crystalline waters is charged with magic, especially after the swell has entered in the previous days. For those seeking beauty in the secret corners of the island, this pool is a worthwhile discovery.

How to get to the Charco Verde
The arrival to Charco Verde is a mini trek in itself, there are two ways to get there:
- Parking in Santa Catalina neighborhood: The road is very narrow, close to San Juan de la Rambla and cross the highway on foot. This option is not the one I would recommend, it is dangerous and there is no adapted crossing. Also, takes twice as long with this option.
- Park directly next to the charco verde at the entrance to the route: This road is surrounded by banana trees, but it is only 5 minutes away from the puddle as you can see in the following map.
It is accessed only on foot through a trail surrounded by banana trees, which adds a touch of adventure to the experience. This trail can be intimidating, as it is a somewhat remote path away from the main town and across the highway. In any case, it is totally safe.
Characteristics of Charco Verde
The pool reveals itself as a small natural bay. However, it is crucial to check the sea state before visiting; the sea conditions can change and with it, the level of swimming safety. Keep in mind that this is a fishing area for locals, you will most likely come across one of them.
- Accessibility: This is one of the weak points, it is a puddle that is difficult to access. This is because it is far from the town and you will have to cross the highway to get to it if you are walking.
- Bathroom: The bath is perfect and pleasant, most likely you will have the puddle to enjoy it by yourself.
- Diving: Diving is possible, but not a crucial experience in this pool.
- Cliffjumping: Unfortunately, you can't jump in this puddle, there is not enough depth.

My Experience in Charco de la Guancha
We arrived at sunset, just after visiting the Charco de la Laja. It is a recommended visit if you are passing through San Juan. At first we had a hard time finding a place to park, but we found a perfect spot at the end of a street, next to a banana plantation.
I recommend that you visit the pool in the morning, when the sunlight hits the puddle. This is the moment when the colors of the water and the rocks can be appreciated. At sunset the light does not fall in the same way and the puddle loses a little of its charm.
Not being a very touristy puddle, we were able to enjoy it all to ourselves. However, I consider it a better option to go in the morning, when the sun is just above the pool and you can see the transparent green water. If you go at that time it is perfect to take pictures and swim quietly.
Is it dangerous to swim in Charco Verde?
Caution is paramount when swimming in Charco Verde. Especially if you approach the edges or if the sea shows signs of heavy swell. The unpredictable nature of the ocean demands respect and constant attention to ensure a safe visit.
For those enthusiasts of snorkeling, diving or kayaking, the region offers activities that complement the visit. Like the baptism of diving in Punta de Teno or kayaking in the Cliffs of Los Gigantes. For stargazers, there are even astronomical routes.
